Ball State 1, Toledo 0
The Rocket surrendered the lone run of the game on a solo home run in the second inning that stayed just fair down the right-field line.Â
Toledo had its best chance to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth, but could not produce a big hit with runners in scoring position.Â
How it Happened
- The first two batters of the game reached for Ball State on a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Minarchick fielded a ground ball for the first out and induced an inning-ending double play to third to get out of the jam.
- The Rockets worked two walks and freshman Bekah Yenrick was hit by a pitch in the first inning, but the threat fell silent with runners on base.
- Ball State's Annie Robinson took advantage of gusting winds in the second inning and delivered a solo home run down the right field line to give BSU a 1-0 lead.
- Minarchick settled in and allowed just three softly-hit singles the rest of the way.
- Bergman singled to start the third and Davis singled with one out in the fourth, but both baserunners were left on base.
- Cozy doubled off the fence in right-center field with one out in the sixth inning to give the Rockets their best chance to pull even. Davis walked to put two aboard before a foul out and a strikeout ended the frame.
- Alyssa Rothwell shut the door on the Rockets in the seventh inning for her conference-best ninth save.
The Rockets and the Cardinals will meet tomorrow for a doubleheader at 1:05 p.m. with the divisional championship and MAC Tournament seeding on the line. Toledo will also honor its two seniors after the contests, along with welcoming back their alumni to the ball park and hosting an apparel garage sale.Â
