Toledo, Ohio— The Toledo baseball team dropped its series opener against Kent State on Friday, 3-1.
The Golden Flashes hit a three-run home run in the top of the first, and that was enough to secure the victory. The Rockets' bats were held to just three hits, and the only run came on junior Ross Adolph's solo home run in the ninth inning, his 11th dinger of the year.
Making his first Friday start, sophomore Joey Prechtel threw six innings, walking just two and pitching well outside of the first inning home run. Junior Michael Jacob pitched three innings in relief and was fantastic, allowing just one baserunner and striking out three.
Game two of the series between Toledo and first-place Kent State is on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. at Scott Park.

How it Happened
- The biggest swing of the day came in the top of the first. A leadoff single was followed by a walk and, one batter later, Tim Dalporto launched a three-run home run over the fence in left field. Kent State took a 3-0 lead before the Rockets stepped in the batter's box.
- Toledo had chances in the first and third innings, all due to free passes. UT had men on first and second with one out in the first and bases loaded with one out in the third, but was unable to capitalize on either opportunity.
- Senior Brad Boss tallied the first Toledo hit in the bottom of the fifth inning. Unfortunately, the inning ended on the next batter one a 1-6-3 double play.
- The Rockets' best offensive inning was the bottom of the ninth. Adolph's long home run left the yard to straightaway center field for the lone UT score of the afternoon.
- Freshman Chris Meyers, who played good defense at shortstop, singled through the right side of the infield with two outs in the ninth, but he was stranded on first base to end the game.
