
Rockets to Compete in 2018 MAC Championships This Weekend

TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo will compete in the 2018 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championships this weekend in Naperville, Ill. The three-day tournament includes 10 schools and will be held on Friday-Sunday, April 20-22 at the par-72, 6,092-yard Naperville Country Club. The event will consist of three rounds with 18 holes being played each day.

    The Rockets have notched six Top Five showings in 11 tournaments this season, including a victory at the Battle at Boulder Creek (Feb. 12-13). UT also has tallied a pair of runner-up showings at Michigan State's Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 23-24) and Bowling Green's Dolores Black Falcon Invitational (April 7-8).

THE FIELD
• Ten schools are participating in the MAC Championships.
• Kent State is the only school to win the MAC Championship in its 19-year history and is the favorite to win the tournament again this year. The Golden Flashes are ranked No. 16 in Golfstat's national rankings followed by Toledo (98), Northern Illinois (135), Akron (144), Ball State (193), Eastern Michigan (194), Western Michigan (195), Bowling Green (199), Ohio (206) and Central Michigan (225).

• UT's lineup this week will include junior Pinyada Kuvanun at #1, sophomore Saranlak Tumfong at #2, junior Hannah Kochendoerfer at #3, junior Pimchanok Kawil at #4 and sophomore Donchanok Toburint at #5.
• The Rockets have finished as the runner-up in three of the last five MAC Championships and have placed in the top three in six of the last eight years.
• UT's showings in the event have included three second-place (2006, 2013, 2014, 2016), seven third-place (1999, 2002, 2003, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2015), four fourth-place (2000, 2001, 2004, 2007), three fifth-place (2005, 2009, 2017) and one sixth-place (2011) finish.
LOOKING BACK AT THE LADY BUCKEYE INVITATIONAL
• Toledo finished in 13th place at last weekend's Lady Buckeye Invitational. The tournament was cut short to 36 holes due to heavy rain on Sunday.
• Junior Pinyada Kuvanun placed third against a field that included nine of the nation's Top 100 golfers. Kuvanun finished with a one-under par 143 (73-70) and leads the Rockets with a 73.0 stroke average, a scoring mark that is ahead of former Rocket Sathika Ruenreong's school-record 73.8.figure.
ON THE HORIZON
• The winning team at the 2018 MAC Championships will qualify for NCAA Regionals action on May 7-9.
