Kalamazoo, Mich.— After trailing most of the game, Toledo tallied 12 runs in the final three innings to take down Western Michigan, 13-4, and win the series.
The Rockets scored in the top of the first, but WMU scored four runs in the first three innings to take the lead. The Broncos led up until the top of the seventh, when Toledo's bats exploded for 12 runs combined in the seventh and eighth.
Every batter in Toledo's lineup drew at least one walk in a game in which Western Michigan issued 15 free passes and used 10 pitchers. The Rockets were able to take advantage of WMU's mistakes and provide some big swings to keep piling on the runs in the big win.
Coming up big for Toledo were sophomore
Austin Calopietro and senior
Alex Wagner. UT had to go to the bullpen early on Sunday, and both Calopietro and Wagner combined for five shutout innings while allowing just three base runners and striking out five. The duo kept the Rockets in the game long enough until the offense took over.
At the plate, senior
Casey Gose had a career-high three hits and drove in two runs. Seniors
Brad Boss and
Matt Hansen also tallied two RBIs apiece at the top of the order. Boss and sophomore
Michael Ryan both drew a team-best three walks.
