IRVINE, Calif. - The Toledo women's soccer team fell behind UC Irvine two minutes into the match and could never recover in a 3-0 loss on Sunday afternoon at Anteater Stadium.
Toledo (1-3-1) managed to fire seven shots, four on goal, during the contest. Seniors
Isa Echeverri and
Chiara Paradiso each took a pair of unsuccessful attempts.
Redshirt freshman
Madison Perrin stopped six shots in goal for the Rockets, compared to four saves for the opposition.
UC Irvine (2-1-2) jumped ahead just two minutes into the contest on the third goal of the season by Kiana Palacios. In the 22nd minute, Palacios had a hand in a goal by Shelby Lee that put the Rockets down 2-0 going into the half.
Toledo nearly cut the lead in half in the 63rd minute. The Rocket defense forced a turnover and a shot by junior
Alena Sidwell clanked off the left post.
The Anteaters put the finishing touches on the match with a goal by Noel Baham in the 83rd minute. Palacios and Baham led UCI with four and three shots, respectively.
The Rockets took a corner kick more than UC Irvine but was out-shot 15-7 in total.
The women's soccer team returns from the west coast for a match at Cleveland State on Friday, Sept. 8 before hosting Notre Dame at Scott Park on Sunday, Sept. 10.
