YPSILANTI, Mich. - Sophomore
Ross Adolph hit his team-high seventh home run, but the Rockets were defeated 18-3 by Mid-American Conference opponent Eastern Michigan on Thursday night at Oestrike Stadium.
Toledo (15-38, 8-14 MAC) was led by Adolph, senior
Jake Krupar and junior
Matt Hansen who each had two hits. Junior
Dalton Bollinger and freshman Malave Bettinger each notched hits in the contest.
The Rockets took the lead just four batters into the game and scored a pair of tallies in the opening inning. Hansen led off the game with a double down the right field line and sophomore
Riley Campbell moved him to second with a groundout.
Junior
Brad Boss was hit by a pitch and then Bollinger drove in Hansen with an RBI single. Two batters later, Adolph singled to score Boss and make the score 2-0.
Eastern Michigan (22-32, 13-9 MAC) responded with four runs in the bottom of the second and added three more in the home half of the third to make the score 7-2.
Toledo cut the lead to 7-3 on Adolph's home run which came on the first pitch of his at-bat.Â
It was all EMU from that point forward as the Eagles scored two in the fourth and fifth, exploded for five in the sixth and capped the scoring with a two-run eighth.
The Rockets and the Eagles meet for game two of the series tomorrow, May 19, at 6:00 p.m. Toledo can clinch a spot in the MAC Tournament with wins in the final two games of the regular season.
