Toledo Senior Day Spoiled by Central Michigan, 15-0

TOLEDO, Ohio - Toledo honored nine seniors before its final home game at Scott Park, but the afternoon was spoiled with a 15-0 Mid-American Conference loss to Central Michigan on a Mother's Day Sunday afternoon.

The Rockets (15-36, 8-13 MAC) honored seniors Ross Achter, Jacob Britt, Josh Cales, Steven Calhoun, Steven Duby, Jordan Kesson, Jake Krupar, Kyle Slack and the game's starting pitcher Caleb Schillace before the start of the contest.

After the ceremonies were complete, Central Michigan (28-23, 15-6 MAC) jumped on the Rockets and did not let up. The Chippewas scored twice in the first inning on back-to-back doubles and an RBI single to take an early 2-0 lead.

CMU added to its lead by batting around and scoring six times in the top of the second to race ahead 8-0. Central Michigan kept the foot on the gas and added two in the third, two in the fourth and capped the scoring with a three-spot in the fifth to take a 15-0 edge.

The Rockets and Chips played even baseball the rest of the way, but the early deficit was far too much for the Rockets' offense that managed just seven hits. Junior AJ Montoya led the Rockets offensively with a 2-for-4 afternoon.

Sophomore Luke Schaefer highlighted the pitching performance for UT. Schaefer tossed 3.0 scoreless innings of relief on just one hit and three strikeouts.

Schillace (0-2) took the loss for the Rockets, while Dazon Cole notched the win for Central Michigan. With the win, CMU clinched a share of the MAC West Division Championship.

The Rockets will visit Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday before finishing the regular season with a three-game series at Eastern Michigan with MAC Tournament implications on the line.
