Toledo Downs Nova Southeastern, 6-3, in First Spring Break Match

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Toledo (7-5) began their spring break with a 6-3 victory over Nova Southeastern on Monday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex. NSU is a Division II program that uses the nine-point format so each doubles competition was worth one point in the teams' total score.

"Nova is a very tough team that is No. 15 in the nation in Division II," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "We played extremely gritty today with the windy conditions and I'm very proud of the way out team finished out the match."

The Rockets jumped into a 2-0 lead with the help of two doubles victories. Sophomore duo Claire Aleck and Rani Goodland were the first to defeat their opponents in the form of an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Senior Sidnay Huck and freshman Deedee Leenabanchong soon followed with an 8-5 defeat over NSU at the top of the lineup.

Toledo continued its momentum into the singles competition and recorded victories from No. 3 through No. 6. Leenabanchong and freshman Mimi Kendall-Woseley soared through straight-set victories at No. 4 and No. 3 singles, respectively.

Both junior Megan Miller and Aleck battled through third-set tiebreakers to notch their victories. Miller opened with a 6-1 win but NSU's Eva Agasse evened the score with a 6-3 win in Set 2. Miller fought her way through a 10-8 third set to claim the match. Aleck fell behind after the opening frame but battled back to post scores of 6-3, 10-6 in the final two sets to win the match.
