ATHENS, Ohio – Toledo (12-21) couldn't overcome Ohio's hot bats on Friday evening and suffered a 10-1 five-inning defeat to the Bobcats (20-6) in its Mid-American Conference opener.
Sophomore starter
Heather Webb (7-7) took the loss after allowing four runs off two hits and five walks in 2.1 innings pitched. Sophomore
Kailey Minarchick allowed six earned runs off eight hits in 1.2 innings of relief work.
Senior 2B
Chandler Rice (1-for-2) jumped on NFCA Mideast Region pitcher Savannah Jo Dorsey (12-3) right from the start of the game with a leadoff home run to center. However, the Bobcats were able to even the score in the second frame off a Toledo fielding error.
The Ohio bats roared in the home-half of the third. The Bobcats put three aboard off two walks and a single up the middle. OU soon took the lead, 3-1, as Morgan Geno contributed an RBI double. Ohio loaded the bases up again after a walk, and plated a run off a passed ball. The Bobcats secured a commanding 6-1 advantage off a one-out single that scored two.
Ohio used the long ball to add to its lead during the bottom of the fourth as Geno and Madison Claytor hit consecutive home runs to score three runs and make it 9-1. OU finished its assault with an RBI double to left to end the game, 10-1.
Toledo will return to Ohio Softball Field tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
