UT Stays Perfect vs. Butler at SIUE Tournament with 4-3 Victory

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill – Senior 2B Chandler Rice's team-leading seventh double helped ignite Toledo's offense that backed a solid effort from sophomore Heather Webb in the circle as Toledo (12-19) secured its 4-3 victory over Butler (11-15) on the final day of the SUIE Tournament.

In the circle, sophomore right-handed starter Kailey Minarchick allowed two runs on five hits in three innings of work. Webb improved to 7-6 overall after permitting two hits and striking out a pair for the Rockets in four innings of relief work.

Rice helped power the offensive charge against the Bulldogs by going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a two-run double. Junior OF Ashley Rausch contributed a 2-for-3 effort with an RBI and three swiped bags.

A solo home run to left by Butler's Dixon got the Bulldogs into immediate business in the first.

The Rockets put two aboard in the top of the second courtesy to a walk and hit batter. Toledo then got its first hit of the contest off a two-out RBI double by Rice to give UT a 2-1 edge. Rausch stepped up to the plate and followed with an RBI single to right to bring home Rice and expand Toledo's advantage to 3-1.

Butler answered back in the third with a run plated off a double to right that scored a runner who reached on a UT error. The Bulldogs threatened to knot the score off a lead-off double in the fourth, but the Rockets' defense came up with three outs to end the frame.

A Butler error on Rice's hit up the middle got something underway for UT in the fifth. Rice advanced to third on Rausch's single to right center, and junior 1B Samantha Showalter brought home an insurance run on a ground-out to second.

The Bulldogs attempted to even the score or regain a lead in the sixth but only came up with one run scored off a single to left.
