DADE CITY, FL – Toledo posted a 0-1-1 mark on Monday at the sixth-annual Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play in its first spring event of the 2017 campaign. Mid-American Conference member Ball State University is once again serving the tournament host at the Lake Jovita South Golf Course (Par 72, 7,153 Yards).
Â
The No. 5 seed Rockets opened play this morning with a 5-1 setback against No. 4 Seton Hall. Freshman Joe Bryce (1-up) recorded UT's lone win against the Pirates at the No. 5 spot.
Â
In this afternoon's consolation round, Toledo tied two-time reigning champion and No. 1 seed Eastern Michigan, 3-3. Unfortunately for the Midnight Blue & Gold, the Eagles advanced on a tiebreaker because they won two more holes.
Â
The duo of junior Colin Joseph (4&2) and freshman Grant Godfrey (3&1) claimed UT's victories against EMU at the No. 3 and No. 6 spots, while the tandem of sophomore Spencer Shoemaker and Bryce each earned a half point at No. 4 and No. 5 as their matches ended all square. The match was ultimately decided upon Eastern Michigan's combined two-hole lead. Â
