Toledo Takes Down Lock Haven in Exhibition Contest, 78-47, at Home

TOLEDO, Ohio – Junior Kaayla McIntyre led three Rockets in double figures with 18 points, and Toledo coasted to a 78-47 win over Division II foe Lock Haven in exhibition action on Saturday in Savage Arena.

McIntyre added a team-high three steals and five rebounds to pace the 2017 Mid-American Conference Champions, who led by as many as 35 points.

Other top performers for the Midnight Blue & Gold were junior Olivia Cunningham with 15 points off the bench and sophomore Mariella Santucci had 12. Junior Mikaela Boyd also contributed eight points, a team-high eight boards and three assists. In total, 11 of UT's 13 players found the scoring column in the decisive 31-point triumph.

As a team, Toledo shot 39.7 percent (27-of-68) from the floor, including 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from three-point land, and 77.8 percent (21-of-27) from the charity stripe.

UT, which led for 33:58 and trailed for only 2:07 in today's match-up, dished out 14 helpers against 13 turnovers and had 14 steals. The Rockets also did a bulk of their damage on the interior and finished with a commanding 48-22 edge in points in the paint.

The story of today's exhibition contest was UT's stout defense, which limited LHU to 31.1 percent (19-of-61) from the field, including 22.2 percent (2-of-9) from beyond the arc. They also forced the Bald Eagles into committing 27 turnovers, which the home team translated into 31 points. The Rockets posted a staggering 31-5 edge in points off miscues.

Jordyn Kloster paced Lock Haven with 11 points and seven caroms. Kloster was the lone visitor in double digits.

Following a slow start, UT took the game over on the strength of strong play from Cunningham. The Horn Lake, Miss. native accounted for nine points in a span of four-plus minutes to give the Rockets a 22-16 lead after the first period. Cunningham was credited with a pair of field goals and five charity tosses during this stretch to give the home team a lead they would not relinquish.

In the second quarter, the Rockets benefited from four points each by McIntyre and Boyd to put them comfortably ahead, 40-25, at the intermission.

UT then put the game away by rattling off the first 15 points in the third stanza to make the score 55-25 at the 6:02 mark. The Rockets spread the wealth in the game-sealing rally, as five different players tallied points, including six from McIntyre.

Toledo would not be challenged for the remainder of today's exhibition game and cruised to the 31-point home victory.
