LAWRENCE, Kan. – A scorching shooting performance in the first half by No. 2 Kansas proved to be too much for Toledo to overcome in a 96-58 defeat at Allen Fieldhouse on Tuesday evening.Â
Kansas couldn't miss in the first half, posting an impressive 75.0 shooting mark that included a sizzling 9-of-11 effort from behind the three-point arc. Senior guard Devonte' Graham paced the Jayhawk attack with a career-high 35 points on 14-of-19 shooting and propelled the Jayhawks to a 59.1 field-goal percentage as a team.Â
Senior guard
Tre'Shaun Fletcher and junior forward
Nate Navigato topped Toledo with 12 points apiece with junior guard
Jaelan Sanford adding nine points. Fletcher also paced the Rockets with six rebounds and three assists in 32 minutes.
Toledo trailed by a 7-0 margin early in the contest before back-to-back three-point field goals from Fletcher and sophomore center
Luke Knapke evened the score at 9-9. Kansas responded with a five-point burst, but a trey from freshman guard
Marreon Jackson brought UT within a basket.
The Jayhawks then took control with a 30-2 spurt midway through the first half as the Rockets saw an 18-15 deficit balloon to 48-17 with 4:04 remaining in the opening stanza.Â
Kansas didn't let up the rest of the way and took a 59-30 lead into intermission.
Toledo returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 2 when it hosts Texas Southern. Tip-off time in Savage Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
