Toledo Falls at No. 5 Louisville, 90-55, in Second Round of Preseason WNIT

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Toledo sustained a 90-55 loss at No. 5 Louisville (3-0) in Tuesday's second round of the Preseason WNIT before 5,444 fans in the KFC Yum! Center. With the setback, the Rockets fall to 1-1 on the season.

UT will now host Louisiana-Lafayette in the final game of the 24th-annual tourney on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2:00 p.m. in Savage Arena.

Senior Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott paced Toledo with 16 points against the nationally ranked Cardinals, followed closely by junior Kaayla McIntyre and sophomore Mariella Santucci with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

As a team, the 2017 Mid-American Conference Champions were limited to 30.0 percent (18-of-60) from the field, including 20.0 percent (5-of-25) from three-point land, and 66.7 percent (14-of-21) from the free throw line to suffer their eighth-straight loss against a nationally ranked opponent.

Myisha Hines-Allen and Jazmine Jones led Louisville with 17 points and 10 rebounds each, while Asia Durr had 14 points to help the ACC members advance to the Preseason WNIT Semifinals against Big Ten member Michigan on Thursday at home.

U of L controlled the glass against the smaller Rockets, 57-27, and finished with a sizable 25-8 edge in second-chance points.

The Cardinals took control of tonight's non-conference matchup early with a 9-1 run and raced out to a 13-6 lead at the 3:40 mark, forcing UT to call a timeout. Three different Louisville players contributed points in the run to prompt Coach Cullop to signal for a stoppage in play.

UT settled down following the timeout and benefited from Bravo-Harriott's second triple to make the difference 20-14 at the end of the quarter.

The Cardinals then rattled off the opening eight points in the second period to stretch the margin to 28-14, making the Rockets call another timeout with 6:08 remaining in the opening half. Durr sparked the rally with a deep pair of three's to bring the home crowd to its feet.

Unfortunately for the Midnight Blue & Gold, they were unable to stop Louisville's momentum and found themselves behind 43-25 at the break.

Louisville did a bulk of its damage in the lane in the opening 20 minutes, as the home team tallied nine of their 14 field goals in the paint to make it an 18-point margin at the half.

UT showed great life to start third quarter, scoring seven of the first nine points to pull within 45-32 at the 8:35 mark. Bravo-Harriott started the burst with another trey, followed by points from Santucci and McIntyre.

The Rockets would not be able to sustain that momentum, though, as Louisville's Hines-Allen registered seven of her team's 11 first points to set the score at 54-33 with 6:13 left in the quarter. The 6-foot-2 forward was credited with three layups and a charity toss in a span of just over two minutes to extend the margin to 21 points.

Toledo made one final push late in period, taking advantage of eight points from Bravo-Harriott to make the score 62-44 after 30 minutes of competition. The London, England native registered her third three-point field goal and five free throws to give them a fighter's chance heading into the final 10 minutes.

It was not meant to be for the Rockets, though, as Louisville began the fourth stanza with a game-sealing 13-2 run to end any hope of a UT comeback.

The Cardinals connected on 48.4 percent (30-of-62) from the floor, including 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from three-point-range, and 80.6 percent (25-of-31) from the charity stripe to beat Toledo in the first matchup between the schools on the hardwood.
