Chicago, IL – Toledo recorded its first victory of the season in the form of a 6-1 win over Chicago State on Sunday Morning. With the win the Rockets improve to 1-2 on the season.
"It's great to get a win today," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "Sidnay continues to be a great leader on the court and our freshman did a good job of refocusing after losing their first set."
The Rockets jumped out in front against Chicago State with a pair of victories from its doubles teams. Junior Sidnay Huck and freshman Deedee Leenabanchong paired up to post their third-consecutive victory at No. 1 doubles. The Rocket duo claimed a 6-2 win over the Cougars, while sophomore Claire Aleck and freshman Mimi Kendall-Woseley also defeated their competition, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles.
Huck took her familiar spot at No. 1 singles and downed Lorea Gamboa in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Rani Goodland also recorded a two-set victory over Judit Aubets 6-3, 6-3.
The Rocket freshman showed resilience vs. their Cougar competition. Both Leenabanchong and Kendall-Woseley came from behind to down their opponents in three sets and seal in the victory for Toledo. Leenabanchong defeated Chicago State's Leshia Gadacz at third singles and Kendall-Woseley beat Carynne Lloyd at No. 4 singles.
