TOLEDO, OH - Toledo (12-4, 3-2 MAC) will continue a pivotal portion of its Mid-American Conference schedule when it entertains Ohio (12-4, 3-2 MAC) on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Tip-off time is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena and will be televised on the American Sports Network (ASN) with Neil Harwell providing play-by-play and Daimon Beathea serving as analyst.
The Rockets currently sit fifth in the MAC West Division standings, two games behind co-leaders Central Michigan (12-4, 5-0 MAC) and Northern Illinois (12-4, 5-0 MAC) and one game below third-place Western Michigan (13-3, 4-1 MAC) and Ball State (11-6, 4-1 MAC).
UT is in the midst of playing four out of five games in the friendly confines of Savage Arena. The Midnight Blue & Gold is 6-3 at home this season and 106-31 over the last eight-plus years.
Toledo began the pivotal home stretch with a tough 77-73 setback against Northern Illinois on Saturday. The Rockets fell behind the Huskies early and never held the lead to snap an eight-game home winning streak in the series. UT's most recent home loss against NIU occurred on Jan. 10, 2007 when it dropped a 65-58 decision.
Senior Janice Monakana paced Toledo with season highs in points (21) and rebounds (11) to post her first double-double of the season and sixth in her collegiate career. The 2015-16 honorable mention All-MAC selection returned to the floor after missing the previous three games with a left shin injury.
Sophomore Kaayla McIntyre also contributed 18 points, eight boards and a game-high three rejections, while sophomore Mikaela Boyd had 12 points in a losing effort.
As a team, UT shot 38.9 percent (28-of-72) from the field, including 21.7 percent (5-of-23) from three-point range, and 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from the charity stripe to see its three-game overall winning streak come to an end.
Toledo continues to be fueled offensively by the quartet of junior Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott, Boyd, Monakana and McIntyre, who are tallying 12.2, 11.4, 10.8 and 9.6 ppg, respectively.
The Rockets will face another stern test tomorrow evening, as the MAC East Division leading Bobcats will be looking to remove the sour tastes in their mouth following a 68-65 home loss to Kent State on Saturday. Quiera Lampkins paced Ohio with 17 points, four helpers and four thefts, while Taylor Agler had 13 points.
Ohio, which is 5-3 away from home, is led by Lampkins' 19.2 points and 6.8 rebounds, followed by Jasmine Weatherspoon's 10.4 points, 8.6 boards and 1.9 rejections.
Ohio is currently third in the MAC in scoring offense (76.4 ppg) and overall field-goal percentage (.441, 127-of-288) and fourth in three-point field-goal percentage (.372, 48-of-129) in league games, while Toledo is first in scoring defense (58.2 ppg) and three-point field-goal percentage defense (.258, 23-of-89), as well as ranking second in overall field-goal percentage defense (.366, 105-of-287).
In addition, the Bobcats are tied for first in three-point fields made (48, 9.6) in conference contests, while the Rockets are giving up only 4.6 triples per game (23), the second-fewest total in the league.
UT and Ohio will meet for the first of two match-ups during the 2017 MAC campaign and the 67th time overall. Toledo leads the all-time series, 44-22, but has dropped the last two meetings against its MAC cross-division foe.
The Rockets will visit Athens on Saturday, Feb. 4 for a 1:00 p.m. start in the Convocation Center.
A year ago, Toledo dropped a 77-57 decision in Savage Arena to snap a 22-game home winning streak in the series (Feb. 13).
