Doshia Woods Joins Toledo Staff as Assistant Coach

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's basketball program has added Doshia Woods as the program's newest assistant coach, Head Coach Ginny Boggess announced on Thursday.

Coming to Toledo from the University of Denver, Woods has totaled 25 seasons in the Division I college coaching ranks. Most recently, Woods led Denver as the program's head coach for six seasons. Her stint at Denver came after 10 successful seasons at Tulane as an assistant coach. Woods has coached a multitude of award winners, NCAA postseason squads and 20-win teams.

As head coach at Denver, Woods earned 57 wins leading the Pios, and her players earned 13 Summit League postseason award selections. Her first career power conference victory came in just her fourth game as head coach – against Colorado on Dec. 8, 2020, the first victory for Denver over the Buffaloes in a decade.

The 13 postseason selections included five in the 2023 season, with Mikayla Minett earning the league's Defensive Player of the Year honor. Uju Ezeudu and Jordan Jones were each two-time Second Team All-Summit League selections under Woods' tutelage. Jones broke the program's single-season record in points (597) and free throws made (201) in the 2024-25 season. In 2025-26, Woods guided Coryn Watts to a First-Team All-Summit League selection. Woods' offenses ranked in the top 50 in Division I from both three-point range and the free throw line across multiple seasons. This included ranking 13th in the country in threes made per game in 2020-21 (9.0) and 14th in free throw percentage (78.6) in the 2024-25 campaign.

Woods came to Denver after 10 successful seasons as an assistant coach at Tulane, coaching alongside long-time coach Lisa Stockton. With the Green Wave, Woods was part of six-straight seasons of at least 20+ victories from the 2010-11 through the 2015-16 seasons. Tulane appeared in NCAA postseason tournaments in seven-straight seasons from 2011-2017, making the 2015 NCAA Tournament and reaching the WNIT third round three times in that span. Woods was instrumental in developing 1,000-point scorers Leslie Vorpahl and Kolby Morgan. Vorpahl became just the second player in school history with at least 1,000 career points and 500 career assists, while Morgan became just the second player at Tulane to reach 2,000 career points and had at least 600 points in three seasons. Woods coached an All-American, four major conference award winners and 17 all-conference picks with the Green Wave.

Woods, a Topeka, Kansas native, started her college playing career at Barton Community College in Illinois before finishing at Western Illinois. She graduated from Western Illinois with a bachelor's degree in 2001 and later completed a Master's in Kinesiology, Health and Wellness from Tulane in 2020. Woods also made coaching stops at Western Illinois, New Mexico State, Oregon State and the University of Missouri before Tulane. Woods has been actively involved in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), WeCoach and Women Leaders as a member, speaker and presenter.Â
