TOLEDO, OH – The Toledo men's tennis program will host its annual UT Rocket Invitational this weekend on Friday-Sunday, Sept. 30 – Oct. 1. Matches will take place at three separate locations: the UT Varsity Tennis Courts on campus, Shadow Valley Tennis Club on Holland-Sylvania Rd. and Shadow Valley Tennis Club on Central Ave.
Â
Teams attending the tournament include: Case Western, Detroit, Duquesne, Michigan, Niagara, Purdue, St. Francis, Valparaiso, Wayne State, Western Michigan and Youngstown State.
"This tournament gets bigger and better every year," said head coach Al Wermer. "It's unique to be able to play at home in the fall. We've got a group of great teams participating this year and there will be a lot of oppoturnities for all of our athletes to play."
Â
There will be no team scoring, with simultaneous singles and doubles play during each matchup. All matches will be best-of-three sets, with a 10-point tiebreak in the third set.
Â
At last year's Rocket Invitational, the Midnight Blue & Gold finished the invite with a final record of 18-12.
Â
Last weekend, sophomores Vince Anzalone and Reid Teatsorth registered four-straight doubles victories en route to claim the Flight B Championship at the Purdue Invitational. Teatsorth and junior Omar Espinosa fell short of their respective singles flight championships on the final day of the tournament.
