Toledo Falls to Wright State, 14-5

TOLEDO, OH – Toledo was unable to overcome two big innings from Wright State (35-13) and fell, 14-5, at Scott Park on Wednesday, May 11. With the loss, the Rockets fall to 13-35-1 on the season.
 
Senior SS Deion Tansel stayed hot with three hits and one RBI during the contest. Sophomore 1B Dalton Bollinger also picked up a multi-hit game while driving in one RBI. Senior 3B John Martillotta, sophomore 2B Matt Hansen and freshman LF Ross Adolph all plated a run as well.
 
Senior RHP Kyle Slack was tagged with the loss after allowing two earned runs in 2.2 innings. Slack fanned three batters and scattered four hits during the outing. Toledo used five pitchers – Freshman RHP Casey Johnson, junior RHP Jordan Kesson, freshman RHP Luke Schaefer, sophomore RHP Nolan Silberhorn, junior RHP Jacob Britt and freshman RHP Jake Stout – in relief. Silberhorn did not allow an earned run in 1.0 frame.
 
E.J. Trapino picked up the win for WSU after tossing 2.0 frames in relief.
 
­­­­­­Wright State jumped on the board in the first with a Ryan Fucci single and Brad Macciocchi to make the game 2-0 in WSU's favor.
 
Toledo earned one back when Tansel ripped a single to center field to score senior RF Cory Finkler.
 
Wright State scored 12-straight runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh to give the Raiders a 13-1 advantage.
 
The UT bats came alive in the eighth with four runs. Bollinger started the scoring with a single to center field to score Tansel. A Martillotta infield single scored sophomore DH Brad Boss, and a Hansen fielder's choice made the game 13-4. Toledo closed the scoring with an Adolph double down the left field line to score Bollinger to cut the advantage to 13-5.
 
WSU added one in the ninth with a sacrifice fly to left field from Matt Marrow to score J.D. Orr.
 
Toledo will be back in action for a key three-game series against Ball State on Friday, May 13 at 3:05 p.m.
