
Toledo Opens Seven-Game Home Stand with Wright State

TOLEDO, OH – Fresh off a sweep of Northern Illinois, Toledo (13-14-1, 8-10 MAC) will return home to Scott Park to begin a seven-game home stand on Wednesday, May 11 at 4:05 p.m. to face Wright State (34-13, 18-4 Horizon).

On the mound, senior RHP Kyle Slack (0-4, 9.97 ERA) is expected to start for the Rockets. Slack has started six contests so far this year. In nine total appearances, he has thrown 21.2 innings and fanned 19 batters. The starter for Wright State has not been announced.

The Rockets have faced WSU three times this season. UT picked up one win, 9-3, on April 17. Senior LHP Ross Achter earned the win for the Midnight Blue & Gold after tossing 6.2 frames and allowing two earned runs. Senior SS Deion Tansel led the way with three RBI, and sophomore 3B Brad Boss also added two RBI with a triple. Mee is 4-10 all-time against the Raiders.

Toledo enters midweek action after taking three key wins over NIU. The Rockets scored 25 runs during the weekend, including a season-high 11 runs on Sunday, May 8. UT moved into a tie for sixth place in the Mid-American Conference standings, and is currently in position to make the MAC Tournament during Memorial Day weekend.

Sophomore INF Matt Hansen was named MAC West Co-Player of the Week for the first time in his career following his performance in the sweep of the Huskies. Hansen ripped a home run and a double while knocking in six RBI and scoring four runs. The Erie, PA native also reached base a total of nine times during the weekend for an on-base percentage of .667.        Â

Achter also shined during game two of the series, tossing a career-high 8.1 frames to shutout NIU. The Oregon, OH scattered seven hits while earning his team-high fifth victory of the season.

Offensively, Tansel is pacing the team with a .303 batting average. The senior has brought home 20 RBI, ripped a team-high 9 doubles and swiped a team-high 11 bases during the 2016 campaign. On the mound, Achter has the lowest ERA (3.17) among starters, while freshman LHP Michael Jacob leads the team in saves (6) and has the lowest ERA among qualifying pitchers.

Following Wednesday's action, Toledo will host Ball State for a three-game series beginning on Friday, May 13 at 3:05 p.m.
