Rockets Dropped by Bowling Green in Game One of Doubleheader, 5-3

Bowling Green, OH – Toledo (5-22-1, 2-3 MAC) fell to Bowling Green (10-17, 1-4 MAC) 5-3, in game one of the doubleheader on April 3. With the loss, the Rockets fall to 5-22-1 and 2-3 in the Mid-American Conference.

Senior 3B John Martillotta led the way at the plate after going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.  Senior RF Ryan Callahan also ripped his first home run of the season, and sophomore 1B Dalton Bollinger added three hits.

Senior LHP Ross Achter picked up the loss after throwing 6.0 innings and allowing five earned runs to cross the plate.  Achter also struck out a career-high seven batters during the outing.  Junior RHP Jordan Kesson was the only Rocket to pitch in relief and only allowed one hit and did not allow a run to cross the plate.

Toledo grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Martillotta ripped a double down the left field line to score senior SS Deion Tansel and freshman LF Ross Adolph for his 13th and 14th RBI of the year.  Adolph reached on a single through the right side of the infield, and Tansel reached on a troublesome fly ball to shallow center field.

Bowling Green tied the game in the second at 2-2 with a two-run home run to right-center field from Cody Callaway.

Callahan put the Rockets back on top, 3-2, in the fourth with first home run this season over the left field fence.

BGSU responded in the same inning with a two-RBI single to center field from Kory Brown to give Bowling Green a 4-3 lead. Matt Smith hit an infield single to third baseman and Brown scored on the throw to make the game 5-3.

Toledo will play the rubber match of the series at 4:10 p.m. on April 3 at Stellar Field.
