Toledo Stretches Win Streak to Eight with 2-1 Victory over NIU

TOLEDO, OH – Toledo (16-31, 7-11 MAC) halted MAC West Division leader Northern Illinois' five-game winning streak with a 2-1 (8 inn.) victory on Friday at Scott Park. The Huskies fell to 32-15 on the season (12-7 MAC), while the Rockets extended their win streak to eight games.

"I cant say enough about our team's heart, effort and attitude today," said head coach Kristen Butler. " We are being led by our fantastic three seniors right now and the rest of the team is completely on board. Tomorrow will come down to which team can adjust the quickest. We're just going to continue to play our game and focus on executing."

GAME 1
Northern Illinois was quick to cross the plate in the first frame with a two-out double to deep center field.

The Rockets evened the score in the bottom of the sixth when junior 2B Chandler Rice scored a squeeze bunt from sophomore C Kaitlyn Bergman.

In the bottom of the eighth, junior DP Celeste Fidge doubled to center field and plated the game-winner on freshman SS Megan Choate's double down the right-field line.

Senior RHP Marla Gooding (13-15) claimed the victory after throwing all eight innings. Gooding has only allowed four earned runs in her last seven appearances (40.2 inn.).

GAME 2
The Huskies plated five quick runs in the first and appeared to be on their way to a doubleheader split. UT fought back though with a run in the first and three more in the second.

Toledo eventually tied the game in the bottom of seventh frame to force the contest into extra innings. At the end of the ninth inning, the umpires suspended the game due to darkness. The game will resume in the 10th inning tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.

Game three of the series will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of the second game.

Alumnae will be recognized on the field in between tomorrow's games. The alumnae Home Run Derby will be held after the conclusion of the final game.
