Rockets Defeat Eastern Michigan in Back and Forth Battle

Ypsilanti, MI – Toledo spoiled Eastern Michigan's senior day with a 4-3 victory over the Eagles. The Rockets improve to 9-11 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

"Our team played with so much heart today," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "I was so proud of the way they fought for every point throughout the singles matches."

Eastern Michigan jumped into a 1-0 lead by securing the doubles point.

Sophomore Sidnay Huck was the first Rocket to put Toledo on the board. Huck defeated Klara Supejova in straight sets at first singles, 6-3, 6-4.

Eastern Michigan regained the lead by claiming a victory at No. 4 singles.

Freshman Claire Aleck tied the score 2-2 after she came from behind to defeat Marie Mayerova, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 5 spot.

Senior Emily Mazzola put Toledo ahead after besting Ani Gogvadze in a three-set battle at third singles. Mazzola won the first set, 6-2, but dropped the second, 6-7. The senior came from behind after saving three match points to go on and win the third set, 7-5.

Senior Lauren Thai clinched the Rocket victory by downing Renu Sharma at No. 6 singles, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3.

Toledo will head to Muncie, IN next weekend for its final regular-season match. The Rockets will battle Ball State on April 23 at 1:00 p.m.
