Harrisonburg, VA – Toledo fell, 8-2, to Saint Joseph's in its first game of JMU's Macado Invitational on Friday. With the loss, UT drops to 1-8 on the season.
SJU jumped ahead early, scoring three runs in the first two innings.
Toledo managed to get on the board in the top of the third. Sophomore OF
Ashley Rausch singled to short, and senior OF
Jessica Lemieux's double to left field led to Rausch scoring on a fielding error.
Saint Joseph's responded with three runs of its own to close out the third inning with a 7-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, UT starter
Marla Gooding (1-4) was replaced by freshman
Danni Ryan after allowing five earned runs. The Hawks bumped up their advantage to 8-1 with a run in the fourth, leading the Rockets to bringing in freshman
Heather Webb in to pitch the remainder of the game.
Toledo scored the game's final run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Senior OF Samantha Emery reached on a single through the right side and stole second (delete) on the next play). Junior INF
Brittany George drove in Emery with a double to center.
The Rockets will now look to regroup for their rematch against the Hawks tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m.

Both team's defenses were able to hold the offense to no runs in the next two innings. Unfortunately, the Rockets were unable to make up the seven-run deficit in the seventh inning. Senior OF Samantha Emery reached on a single through the right side and stole second on the next play. Junior INF
Brittany George doubled up the middle, which allowed Emery to score Toledo's final run.
Toledo finished the game with six hits and three errors.
The Rockets will attempt to regroup before their rematch against the Hawks tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m.
