Rockets to Visit Middle Tennessee to Open Week in Volunteer State

QUICK HITTERS
•  Toledo (2-1) continues its nine-day roadtrip on Tuesday, Nov. 22 when it battles Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee (2-1) at the Murphy Center (11,520). Tip-off time is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and can be seen via live streaming at CUSA.TV.
•  The Rockets have rebounded from a 77-76 setback at Saint Joseph's in their season opener with a 103-98 (OT) win over Youngstown State (Nov. 15) and an 82-78 triumph at Wright State (Nov. 19).
•  Senior guard Jonathan Williams is leading the Rockets with 21.7 ppg, including 25- and 22-point outings vs. the Penguins and Raiders, respectively. Senior forward Steve Taylor, Jr. is also averaging 16.7 ppg, a MAC-best 13.3 rpg and a team-high 4.0 apg.
•  Taylor was named MAC West Division Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 18.0 ppg, 16.5 rpg and 4.5 apg with a 57.7 FG% (15-of-26) in UT's two wins last week.
•  Junior guard Daniel Dzierzawski and sophomore guard Jaelan Sanford are also scoring in double digits for the Rockets with 13.3 and 13.0 ppg, respectively. Sanford poured in a career-best 23 points in a career-high 36 minutes at Wright State.
•  The Raiders are playing their fourth straight home game and looking to bounce back from Saturday's 74-63 setback to Tennessee State.
•  Senior forward JaCorey Williams is MTSU's leading scorer with 20.3 ppg with senior forward Reggie Upshaw averaging 16.3 ppg and a team-high 9.0 rpg and 4.0 apg.
•  UT dropped a 78-70 decision to Middle Tennessee in last year's Great Alaska Shootout championship game. The Blue Raiders snapped a 32-32 halftime deadlock with an 8-0 spurt which ended up being the difference in the contest. Williams and former Rocket Nathan Boothe were the only Rockets to crack double figures in points with 20 and 19 points, respectively.
•  Toledo trails its all-time series vs. MTSU, 2-1, with its lone victory coming in a 75-69 (OT) victory at the 2006 Paradise Jam.
•  Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk is in his seventh season at UT and has orchestrated a dramatic turnaround since his arrival in 2010. He has guided the Midnight Blue and Gold to a 100-66 (.602) win-loss mark over the last six years, including back-to-back 20-win campaigns in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
•  Toledo is playing just one home game in the month of November. The Rockets will be on the road for six of seven games in November before playing seven of its next eight contests in Savage Arena.

POST-GAME NOTES FROM UT'S 82-78 VICTORY OVER WRIGHT STATE
• Toledo leads the all-time series vs. Wright State by a 6-5 margin and snapped a two-game losing streak in the series with its victory.
• The Rockets held a 35-30 advantage on the boards and has held the edge in the rebounding department over their opponents in each of their first three games.
• Toledo posted its best shooting mark of the season with its 52.5 FG%.
• Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk evened his career record vs. Wright State at 9-9 in his first game vs. the Raiders as the Rockets' head coach.
• Sophomore guard Jaelan Sanford registered career highs for points (23), field goals (9), field-goal attempts (13) and minutes (36).
• Sanford has blocked a shot in each of Toledo's first three games and leads the Rockets with four rejections.
• Senior guard Jonathan Williams registered his 15th 20-point outing of his career and also recorded a career-high nine free-throw attempts.
• Williams moved into 29th place on UT's all-time scoring list with 1,194 points.
• Senior forward Steve Taylor Jr. posted his second-straight double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He ranks second on the team with 16.7 ppg and leads the team with 13.3 rpg and 4.0 apg.
• Senior guard Jordan Lauf tied his career high with three assists and played a season-best 30 minutes. He also sank both of his free throws and 9-of-9 from the charity stripe this season.
• Redshirt freshman Luke Knapke grabbed a season-best four boards in a season-high 16 minutes.
 
ON THE HORIZON
                Toledo will continue its nine-day road trip when it competes in the Challenge in Music City in Nashville, TN on Friday-Sunday, Nov. 25-27. During the three-day tourney, UT will face three schools — Evansville (2-1), Middle Tennessee (2-1) and UNC-Wilmington (3-0) — that each won 25 games last year.
