TOLEDO, Ohio - Senior
Kiersten Johnson scored a pair of goals in her final Toledo home match but Western Michigan spoiled the celebration in a high-scoring affair, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at Scott Park.
The Rockets (7-10-1, 2-7-1 MAC) fell beind, 1-0, in the 11th minute when the Broncos Alyssa Burke opened the scoring. Western Michigan (11-6-1, 5-4-1 MAC) took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
UT evened the scoring on Johnson's first goal in the 61st minute. Junior
Chiara Paradiso entered a free kick into the box which was deflected directly to Johnson by junior
Isa Echeverri.
Just 40 seconds later, Western Michigan regained the lead with a goal from Liz Abro. Toledo scored the third goal in 3:19 of game clock to tie the score at 2-2 when Paradiso rocketed a free kick into the back of the net from just inside of midfield.
The Rockets were penalized inside of the box in the 70th minute, leading to a WMU penalty kick and the second goal of the match for Abro. Burke added her second tally of the match in the 79th minute to put the Broncos ahead, 4-2.
In the 83rd minute, Johnson controlled a rebound off the crossbar and notched her 10th goal of the season to cut the lead in half. The Rockets had a few opprutunities in the final minutes but could not score the equalizing goal.
Toledo outshot the Broncos 17-9 and took three more corner kicks than the opposition.Â

The women's soccer team concludes the regular season with a trip to Bowling Green on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 3:00 p.m.
