Toledo Powers to 3-2 Victory Over Kent State

TOLEDO, OH – Toledo closed out Homecoming Weekend undefeated with the help of a 3-2 defeat over Kent State on Saturday night in Savage Arena. The Rockets improve to 12-8 overall and 5-3 in the league, while Kent State falls to 11-10, 4-4 MAC.

Junior MB Annie Beasley recorded a career-high 18 kills (.375 ATK%) and a match-high five blocks to help propel Toledo to the victory. Junior OH Saige Thomas and junior MB Rachel Vidourek each added 10 apiece.

Toledo's balanced attack was powered by sophomore libero Maurissa Leonard (18 digs), junior DS Lauren Bakaitis (16 digs), senior DS Maggie Johnston (12 digs) and sophomore DS Andrea Stephenson (11 digs).

Toledo led the entire first frame and outhit the Golden Flashes .323-.238.

Kent State evened the score with a 25-14 victory in Set 2 and held UT to a .029 attack mark as a team. The Golden Flashes took the lead by claiming the third set, 25-23.

The momentum switched hands in the fourth and Toledo powered to a 25-14 victory. UT held Kent State to a .032 hitting mark, while edging the Golden Flashes in kills, 14-5.

Kent State could not overcome the Rockets' attack in the finale. Toledo posted an impressive .421 ATK% as a team and held the Golden Flashes to -.125.

UT hits the road next weekend for matches against East Division leader Miami and arch-rival Bowling Green.
