WOLCOTT, CO – Toledo carded its best round of the tournament in Wednesday's final round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge. The Rockets tallied a team score of six-over par 294 to finish in a 13
th-place tie at 58-over par 922 on the par-72, 6,261-yard Fazio Course of the Red Sky Golf Club.
Senior
Sathika Ruenreong notched her second three-under par 69 of the young season to lead UT. She tied for 17
th place in the tournament standings at seven-over par 223 (75-79-69).
Freshman
Pimchanok Kawil also finished the tourney strong by backing up her four-over par 76 on Tuesday with a two-over par 74 on Wednesday. She finished at 15-over par 231 (81-76-74) to tie for 44
th place. Two strokes behind Kawil was senior
Manisa Isavas, who tied for 50
th place at 17-over par 233 (77-81-75). Rounding out the Rockets' lineup were senior
Morgan Salm (79-81-76=236/63
rd) and sophomore
Napaphan Phongpaiboon (80-84-76=240/T-74
th).
"It was good to finish the tournament on a high note after shooting ourselves in the foot the first two rounds," Head Coach
Nicole Hollingsworth. "We know we can play better and now is the time to work on our weaknesses and try to get better."
San Diego State rolled to the tournament title by carding a six-under par 858 thanks to an impressive 10-under par 278 in today's final round. The Aztecs' Emma Henrikson ran away with medalist honors after firing back-to-back 67s in the final two rounds to finish at 10-under par 206.
"We're extremely honored to have been invited to an event featuring some of the nation's best teams by Golfweek," Hollingsworth said. "It was a great tournament to be a part of, and now we have to turn our focus on defending our title at the Rocket Classic."
Toledo will return to action on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 5-6 when it hosts the third-annual Rocket Classic at the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, OH.
