EAST LANSING, MI -
Sathika Ruenreong opened her senior season with a strong showing on Saturday in the first two rounds of Michigan State's Mary Fossum Invitational. Ruenreong's even-par 144 (75-69) put her alone in third place and has helped the Toledo to a fourth-place standing among 12 schools.
The Rockets carded a six-over par 294 in the second round and a 29-over par 605 for the day. UT's second-round score was the third-best round of the day, trailing only Notre Dame and Tulane which shot two-over par 292s.
"I really had a lot of fun watching us play and it was a great day for our team," Head Coach
Nicole Hollingsworth said. "Playing within two strokes of Notre Dame and Tulane in the second round shows what our potential is, I'm looking forward to see what happens tomorrow."
The Fighting Irish lead the field after two rounds at 13-over-par 589 (297-292), while the Green Wave is in second place at 17-over-par 593 (301-292). Â The host Spartans are in third at 21-over 597 (300-297).
MSU's Sarah Burnham and Tulane's Emily Penttila are tied for first place at three-under par 141. Burnham' six-under par 66 in the opening round set a school record.
Ruenreong's three-under par 69 was her second-best round as a collegian. Junior
Manisa Isavas is tied for 18
th place at eight-over par 152 (78-74), while senior
Morgan Salm (82-74) and sophomore Napahan Phongpaiboon (79-77) are tied for 31
st place at 12-over par 156. UT's freshman duo of Natcha Daenpiem (78-79) and
Pimchanok Kawil (80-77) are tied for 39
th place at 13-over par 157.
The third and final round of the Fossum Invitational is set for 8:30 a.m. on Sunday with live scoring available at birdiefire.com.
