
Toledo Ties for Seventh Place at Boilermaker Invitational in Final Tuneup Before MAC Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – Toledo tied for seventh place with a team score of 19-over par 883 (292-293-298) at the Boilermaker Invitational on Sunday at the Kampen Course (Par-72, 7465 Yards).
Senior Chris Selfridge topped the Rockets on the individual scoreboard at two-under par 214 (71-72-71) and tied for sixth place. The Castledawson, Northern Ireland native carded three birdies and two bogeys in today's final round on a cool Sunday and has now finished in the top six in four of the last five tournaments.
One of the leading candidates for Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, Selfridge recently moved up to No. 98 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, which evaluates the top male amateur golfers in the world on the basis of their average performance in Counting Events over a rolling cycle of the previous 52 weeks.
Junior Otto Black also had a solid effort this weekend and finished four strokes behind Selfridge and tied for 19th place at two-over par 218 (73-72-73), while freshman Stephen Watts finished in 35th place at six-over par 222 (72-74-76).
Rounding out the UT lineup was senior Patrick Cermak tied for 55th place at 13-over par 229 (76-75-78) and freshman Colin Joseph tied for 78th place at 22-over par 238 (76-82-80).
No. 6 Illinois secured the 15-team field with an impressive 35-under par 829 (276-268) and posted an eye-popping 32-stroke advantage over second-place Louisville. The Fighting Illini also had four individuals among the top five with teammates Charlie Danielson (67-65-74) and Thomas Detry (69-67-70) tied for medalist honors at 10-under par 206.
UT also finished tied for second among five MAC schools with Miami (293-298-292) and trailed only sixth-place Northern Illinois (293-286-301) by three strokes. The Midnight Blue & Gold finished ahead of 12th-place Kent State (298-291-301) and 15th-place Ball State (296-313-312).
The Rockets will now turn their attention to the MAC Championships at the Sand Ridge Golf Club in Chardon, OH. Toledo registered a third-place finish a year ago and will look for its look league crown since 2004.
