Bertenyi ties for 22nd place at one-under par to lead Rockets
PAUMA VALLEY, Calif. – Senior Bence Kotel and sophomore Bence Bertenyi led the Toledo men's golf team with one-under par 70s in Wednesday's third and final round at the Pauma Valley Invitational.
The Rockets registered their second-best round of the tournament with a four-over par 288 to tie for 14th place in the team standings at the par-71, 7,311-yard Pauma Valley Country Club. Â The Rockets finished just 10 strokes behind No. 10 Texas Tech, which finished in 10th place. The tournament field consisted of six of the nation's top 10 teams and nine of the top 20.
No. 15 Tennessee and No. 20 Georgia Tech tied for the tournament title at 16-under par. The Volunteers' Lance Simpson and SMU's William Sides shared medalist honors at 10-under par.
Bertenyi tied for 22nd place at one-under par and matched Kotel in the tournament with a team-high 11 birdies. He opened today's round with three birdies in his first six holes and birdied his second-to-last hole to finish in the red.
Kotel tied for 48th place after notching his best round of the tournament. He played his final nine holes at two-under par with four birdies.
Toledo will return to action when it travels to Wilmington, N.C. for the UNCW Seahawk Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, March 30-31.
