BRIDGEPORT, WV - Toledo will head to the "Mountain State" to compete in the inaugural Mountaineer Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 19-20 at the Pete Dye Golf Club. The Rockets will take part in their sixth tournament of the year on the par-72, 7,353-yard course.
The tournament will follow the traditional 54-hole format. Golfers will tee off at 8:30 a.m. in a shotgun start on Monday, playing 36 continuous holes. Players will return to the course for the final 18 holes on Tuesday, teeing off in an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
A total of 14 teams will compete in the event. Five programs rank in the Top 100 of GolfWeek's most recent rankings (October 13), headlined by No. 15 Penn State, UConn (No. 67), Missouri (No. 73), Miami (No. 89) and Bowling Green (No. 100). Also participating in the event with Toledo (No. 107) are Cincinnati (No. 104), Akron (No. 105), Mississippi State (No. 106), Towson (No. 137), host West Virginia (No. 155), Marshall (No. 156), Seton Hall (No. 201) and St. John's (No. 262). Both the Nittany Lions and the RedHawks are coming off of NCAA Regional appearance in 2015.
Five players from each program will compete with four of the five scores counting. Six programs have registered individuals to compete in the event. These players are eligible for individual medals but their scores will not count towards the team standings.
UT is coming off a sixth-place showing at the Crooked Stick Intercollegiate earlier this week. The Rockets registered a score of 44-over par 907 (305-292-311) to also finish tops among four Mid-American Conference squads in the two-day event, ahead of seventh-place Eastern Michigan (314-299-301=914), eighth-place Ball State (304-303-311=918) and 11th-place Northern Illinois (316-315-334=965).
Individually, sophomore Stephen Watts tied for eighth place at four-over par 220 (77-72-71) to pace the Rockets. Watts fired a one-under par 71 in the final round to post his second Top 10 finish of the fall season.
Senior Otto Black continues to lead the team with a 72.6 stroke average in 14 rounds this fall, while Watts is second with a 74.2 stroke average.
Toledo will utilize the same lineup as this past week with Black, Watts, sophomore Colin Joseph (75.6 stroke average), freshman Spencer Shoemaker (76.1) and freshman Mike Lee (77.4) making the trip. The Rockets will be paired up with the Falcons, Tigers and Zips for the opening 36 of competition.
The Pete Dye Golf Club is ranked No. 45 on Golf Digest's ranking of America's 100 Greatest Courses and comes in at No. 9 on Golfweek's ranking of Best Modern Courses. Mining remnants and rambunctious terrain combine across 250 acres in the Appalachian Mountains. Pete Dye previously played host to a PGA TOUR/web.com event (2004-09).

Following next week's tourney, UT will wrap up its fall schedule by hosting the second-annual Rocket Individual Classic on Sunday, Oct. 25 at Belmont Country Club in Perrysburg.
