Junior
Kiersten Johnson found the back of the net on a far-post rip in the 70
th minute after junior
Brooke Maletic served her a beautiful through ball from just over the midfield line. The Rockets controlled the pace of the entire match, and outshot the Eagles 15-6 on the day. First-year head coach
TJ Buchholz knows what two wins does for the team going forward.
"Anytime we're at home you want to win," Buchholz said. "We are playing good defense but we are also getting goals, and we struggled a bit doing that in the past. Give credit to our team, they've battled through a lot, and going forward these two wins will be huge for our mentality."
Sophomore
Chiara Paradiso and the backline have been incredibly solid as of late. The Rockets did not give up a goal in either game over the weekend. The defense is starting to come together and reach their potential.
"I'm really proud of the back line," Paradiso said. "The defense is really young, and we're starting to have better chemistry as a group."
Buchholz also recognizes how well the the backline has been for his squad.
"Defensively, we're playing really good soccer. "Chiara is really leading our backline and she's had a great stretch of contests lately. We put a lot of leadership responsibilities on her and we couldn't be happier how she's responded. The defense as a whole is just in sync right now.
Toledo will look to lengthen its winning streak when it heads east to continue Mid-American Conference play against Buffalo on Friday, Oct. 16 at 5:00 p.m. Two days later, the Rockets face Akron on Sunday, Oct. 18 at noon.
