
Rockets Take One of Two In Doubleheader Versus Eastern Michigan

TOLEDO, OH - The University of Toledo softball team won one of two games against Eastern Michigan in a doubleheader Friday at Scott Park.
The Rockets took game one 8-1, but suffered an 11-5 setback in game two. Following the day, Toledo holds a 17-32 overall record and a 7-11 ledger in the Mid-American Conference.
In game one, Toledo struck early and often, as the Rockets scored at least one run in each of the first three innings.
The Midnight Blue & Gold received hits from eight different batters, led by freshman 1B Celeste Fidge, who went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. Freshman OF Tasi Docktor also had two RBI, going 1-for-3 on the day.
Senior OF Erinn Wright and freshman 2B Ashley London each added doubles for Toledo.
The Rockets kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single to center field by Fidge, scoring freshman SS Chandler Rice. Toledo added another run in the second when junior pinch runner Mareshah Scott scored on a groundoutby sophomore Jessica Lemieux.
UT scored two more in the third to increase its lead to 4-0 and never looked back, scoring four more runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away. Wright scored on Fidge's triple to right center field, junior pinch runner Allissa Turkovich scored on London's double, and London and Docktor each crossed the plate later in the inning.
Freshman P Emily Anderson racked up nine strikeouts in seven innings of work, allowing just two hits, four walks and one run.
In game two, Anderson was unable to recreate her strong performance from earlier, pitching six innings and allowing 11 runs on nine hits. She struck out six batters.
The game went back and forth, as EMU scored four runs in the first inning, but Toledo scored two in the first and three in the second to take a 5-4 lead. The Eagles scored two more in the fifth to take a one run lead and added five insurance runs in the final frame to go up six runs.
Ernst had a strong game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Wright and Rice each had two hits of their own.
The Rockets are back in action with single games tomorrow and Sunday with games against Central Michigan at 2:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.
