Toledo Registers Outstanding Showing in Classroom in 2013 Fall Semester

TOLEDO, OH - The Toledo baseball program registered another tremendous showing in the classroom with a 3.435 cumulative grade-point average in the recently completed 2013 Fall semester. The Rockets have now posted team GPAs above 3.0 in 17 of the 21 grade periods under head coach Cory Mee, including each of the last seven semesters.

A program-record 27 Rockets posted a 3.0 GPA or higher led by junior Andrew Marra, junior Alec Schmenk, junior Dan Zuchowski, sophomore John Martillotta and freshman Josh Cales with perfect 4.0 marks. Marra has now recorded an umblemished 4.0 GPA in five consecutive grade periods at UT, while Martillotta has been perfect three times and Schmenk, Zuchowski and Cales once, respectively.

In addition to these five student-athletes, 12 others (senior Tyler Grogg, senior James Miglin, senior Ryan Wilkinson, junior Nate Langhals, junior Austin Schmidt, sophomore Tyler Baar, sophomore Kevin Kline, sophomore Caleb Schillace, sophomore Kyle Slack, freshman Steven Calhoun, freshman Jordan Kesson, freshman Sam Shutes) earned a spot on the University's Dean's List (3.5 GPA or higher). Senior Zack Michael, senior Jacob North, senior Cameron Palmer, senior Adam Tyson, junior Cory Finkler, junior Lucas Sokol, sophomore Ross Achter, sophomore Ryan Callahan, sophomore Deion Tansel and freshman Jacob Britt also registered a 3.0 GPA or higher.

The baseball program's performance was a part of the athletic department's successful fall semester which saw UT student-athletes earn a GPA of 3.145. It is the 10th consecutive semester in which UT student-athletes earned a combined GPA of 3.1 or higher.

Additionally, 12 of UT's 15 sport programs earned team GPAs of 3.0 or above.

Individually, 29 student-athletes earned President's List honors with a perfect 4.0 GPA, while 35 percent (128 of 345) earned a spot on the Dean's List by garnering at least a 3.50 GPA. Additionally, 65 percent of UT student-athletes achieved a 3.0 grade-point average or better for the 2013 fall semester.

Women's golf had the highest team GPA at 3.625, while baseball had the highest GPA for a men's team.
