TOLEDO, OH - Head Coach Tricia Cullop announced today that Inma Zanoguera (IN-muh THEN-o-gare-uh) (Llucmajor, Spain - IES CTEIB) has joined the Toledo women's basketball program. Zanoguera's addition brings the Rockets' incoming recruiting class size to six, including Kyle Baumgartner (North Canton, OH), Ana Capotosto (Saugatuck, MI), Taylor Carver (Woodlan, IN), Brianna Jones (Toledo, OH) and Stephanie Recker (Pandora-Gilboa, OH).
"Inma is capable of playing a number of positions for our team," said Cullop, the 2010-11 Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year. "She's a strong, athletic player who has tested her skills against some of the best competition other countries can offer. She was one of three players from Spain who were selected to play on the Spanish National Team in both Chile and Romania this past summer. She possesses strong ball handling and passing skills and loves the defensive end of the court. We will enjoy her size on the perimeter and her quickness and three-point range if we choose to play her in the post."
Zanoguera, a 5-foot-10 wing, has played the last three summers for the Under-16, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 Spanish National Teams. Most recently, she competed in the U-18 European Championship (Division A) and averaged 7.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.3 steals per contest. She ranked 12th in the league in helpers and 13th in thefts. Zanoguera shot 44.4 percent (28-of-63) from the field and 70.0 percent (7-of-10) from the charity stripe in 23.3 minutes over the course of nine games. She scored in double digits on two occasions, contributing a season-high 12 points vs. Slovenia in the opening contest.
Zanoguera also represented her home country this past summer in the FIBA U-19 World Championship and tallied 5.4 points, 4.3 boards and 1.6 assists per game.
In Summer 2010, Zanoguera participated in the U-18 European Championship (Division A) and registered 3.0 points and 2.4 caroms per contest. She also played in the 2010 FIBA U-17 World Championship and tallied 6.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 dimes.
In Summer 2009, Zanoguera competed in the U-16 European Championship (Division A), averaging 8.1 points, 2.4 boards and 1.4 assists per contest. She also scored a career-high 17 points and converted a career-best seven field goals vs. Finland during the 2009 championship.
Zanoguera and the Rockets begin full-team practice on Tuesday, Oct. 4 and open their exhibition season on Saturday, Nov. 5 against Division II member Ashland in Savage Arena at 1:00 p.m.
