CLEVELAND, OH - After swatting three home runs over the weekend, Toledo softball player Mica Sanchez picked up her first-career MAC West Division Player of the Week accolades, as announced by the league office today.
In four games, the senior batted .455 (5-for-11) with a team-best five runs, three homers and six RBI over the weekend. She also doubled and had a remarkable 1.364 slugging percentage with a .500 on-base percentage.
Sanchez homered in both ends of Friday's doubleheader against Miami and totaled four RBI, and went 2-for-4 on Sunday against Ball State with her third long ball of the weekend and two RBI.
The Riverdale, CA native only had one career homer and 23 career RBI entering the season, and to date she has already blasted five home runs with 24 RBI this season. She's also batting .277 with 17 runs scored, a team-high 14 walks, and she's one of two players (Jillian Spink) to start all 41 games. Sanchez also leads the team with 10 multi-hit games this year.
She joins Brooke Gates (March 23) as Rockets to pick up Player of the Week recognition this season.
Toledo hits the road this week for its final non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at Cleveland State before a doubleheader with Ohio on Friday and single games Saturday and Sunday at Akron.
