2/6/2010 9:10:00 PM

ATHENS, OH - Toledo bounced back from its second Mid-American Conference setback of the season with a resounding 76-54 victory at Ohio (6-17, 2-8 MAC) on Saturday in the Convocation Center. With the win, the Rockets improve to 18-5 overall, 8-2 in the league.

"The loss on Wednesday took a lot of wind out of our sails, but I thought our players responded and played extremely well today," Toledo Head Coach Tricia Cullop said. "We had good practices the last couple of days and that carried over into the game. We had quite a few people step up and play big roles in the victory. I'm so proud of our team for having this type of response."

Senior Lisa Johnson paced four UT players in double digits with a season-high 13 points off the bench. Johnson came into today's matinee with six points in the first nine MAC contests combined.

"I want to complement Lisa, because I thought she played a great game," Cullop said. "She did a fantastic job at both ends of the floor."

Senior Tanika Mays added 12 points, junior Melissa Goodall had 11 points and sophomore Naama Shafir contributed 10 points in the triumph, handing Ohio its second-worst home loss of the season. The Rockets also received solid efforts from junior Jessica Williams (9 pts.), sophomore Clare Aubry (8 pts.) and freshman Lecretia Smith (6 pts.). In all, 10 of the 12 Rockets found the scoring column, as they moved their record to 4-1 against the MAC East Division so far this season.

UT finished the game an impressive 50.0 percent (27-of-54) from the field, including 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from three-point land, and 60.9 percent (14-of-23) from the charity stripe. The visitors also claimed a 38-31 edge on the boards and tallied with 18 assists, compared to 16 miscues.

The cross-division contest was nip-and-tuck at the outset, before Johnson knocked down three field goals to give the Rockets a 20-12 lead at 10:54.

Johnson's strong minutes helped jumpstart the UT offense and baskets from Smith, Mays and Williams stretched the margin to 27-16 with 7:43 remaining.

Toledo maintained a comfortable cushion for the rest of the period, utilizing a triple from Williams and a traditional three-point play from Johnson to make the tally 37-27 at the intermission.

UT continued to play at a high level at the start of the second half and scored 10 of the first 14 points to up its lead to 48-31 with 15:49 left.

The Midnight Blue & Gold was poised to put the game away early in the second period and back-to-back field goals from Smith and a trey from Aubry made the score 55-38 at 10:34. UT's margin would not slip below 14 points for the remainder of the contest.

Jennifer Bushby led the Bobcats with a game-high 16 points. She was the only Ohio player in double figures. The home team shot 40.0 percent (20-of-50) from the floor, but was victimized by 18 turnovers. UT took advantage of those miscues and translated them into 19 points.

The Rockets return to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 10 when they wrap up their six-game swing through the MAC East Division member Akron. The opening tip is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena.
