Toledo Cruises to Wins Over IUPUI, Valparaiso

TOLEDO, OH - The University of Toledo men's tennis team breezed to a pair of wins, defeating IUPUI 7-0 and Valparaiso 6-1 Saturday evening at Laurel Hill.
The Rockets jumped out to an early lead against IUPUI after sweeping the doubles matches. Knot Likitkumchorn and Leo Sarria at first doubles and Bryant Dudzik and Terence Weigand both led 4-3 early in their matches before pulling away for victories. Sven Burus and Aleksandar Elezovic had little trouble in recording an 8-1 victory at second doubles.
As with the doubles, Toledo jumped out to early leads in the singles matches and coasted with straight set wins at five of the six spots in the lineup. Likitkumchorn rolled at the top, 6-3, 6-1, while Burus was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at number two. Elezovic recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win at third singles, while Leo Sarria earned a 6-3, 6-0 win. Gursher Harika claimed a 6-3, 6-0 victory at fifth singles, while Dudzik rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, (10-2) win at sixth singles.
Toledo continued its perfect mark in doubles by sweeping all three matches from the Crusaders. Elezovic partnered with Likitkumchorn at the top for an 8-3 win after falling behind 2-1. Burus and Sarria won 8-4, while Dudzik and Weigand protected a 4-1 lead to hold on for an 8-7 victory.
In singles, Likitkumchorn was down 4-3 in the first set but won the tiebreaker, 7-6, and the second set, 6-2. Burus won the first 11 games in his match and breezed to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at second singles.
Elezovic trailed 4-3 in the first but recovered to win 6-4, 6-0. He is now a perfect 17-0 in home singles matches the last two years.
Sarria scored a 6-3, 6-1 victory at fourth singles, and Leonardo Henriques needed a third set tiebreaker but came away with a 4-6, 6-3, (11-9) win.
The Rockets are on the road next week for a pair of matches. Toledo faces DePaul at noon on Friday, Feb. 19, and Michigan State at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20.
