CHICAGO - The University of Toledo men's tennis team dropped a tight 5-2 decision on the road against Big East foe DePaul late Friday night.
The Rockets (6-5) nearly scored the first point of the match in doubles. Junior Sven Burus and sophomore Leo Sarria took an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. However, Toledo couldn't pull out the wins at first and third doubles, losing 8-5 and 8-6 decisions.
Junior Knot Likitkmuchorn scored a 6-3, 6-4 win at first singles for Toledo's first point, and classmate Aleksandar Elezovic recorded a 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, (10-6) win at third singles. But those would be the lone two singles victories for the Rockets, though two of the matches went to third set tiebreakers.
"This was a riveting match," Al Wermer, head coach, said. "The doubles point was decided by one service break, and we had those three-setters in singles. DePaul had more horses in the lineup tonight but our team continues to battle and stay focused on the bigger picture - improving together."
The Rockets return to action at Michigan State at 4 p.m. Saturday.
