BOWLING GREEN, OH - Junior Maha Guirguis was honored by the Mid-American Conference coaches on Thursday when the Cairo, Egpyt native was named to the 2009 All-MAC First Team, as announced at the 2009 MAC Tournament Banquet in Bowling Green.
Guirguis racked up a 17-3 record in singles play in the spring including a 6-2 record in conference play. Nine of Guirguis' 11 out-of-conference singles wins came in the No. 3 slot as she went 9-0 in the third spot. In doubles play, Guirguis posted a 16-4 ledger with teammate Martina Wodzinski in No. 1 singles and added six more wins in doubles play with Jenny Belsky.
This is the first All-MAC honor for Guirguis. Earlier in the season, Guirguis was honored by the conference as a player of the week. In 2008, she was named to the MAC All-Tournament Team and also earned player of the week honors.
Guirguis and the Rockets will be in action on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the first match of the 2009 MAC Tournament as they take on the host Falcons.
