Mt. Pleasant, MI - Toledo jumped out to a 14-7 lead but could not contain Central Michigan's potent offense in a 56-28 loss in Mt. Pleasant Wednesday night.
Toledo's offense moved the ball throughout the game, finishing with 353yards of total offense, but was hurt by five turnovers and costly penalties.
The Chippewas (8-2, 6-0 MAC) were led by senior quarterback Dan LeFevour, who ran for four touchdowns--all from two yards out--and threw for two more. UT senior quarterback Aaron Opelt, playing with a sore right shoulder, completed 14-of-22 passes for 128 yards and one TD. Opelt came out of the game in the third quarter, after apparently reinjuring his shoulder. Senior Stephen Williams and freshman Eric Page led the receiving corps with six catches each.
Toledo (4-6, 2-4 MAC) scored on its first possession, capping an eight-play drive with a 14-yard TD pass from Opelt to Kenny Stafford. After CMU evened the score, DaJuane Collins scored from one yard out on fourth down on the first play of the second quarter to put Toledo up, 14-7.
But CMU stormed back with four unanswered touchdowns to take a 35-14 halftime lead. LeFevour ran for three of the scores. The other TD was a four-yard run by Bryan Schroeder. The Chippewas took advantage of short fields, with three of their TDs coming off of drives of 43 yards or less.
CMU scored on its first possession of the second half on LeFevour's fourth two-yard touchdown run. Toledo scored twice in the fourth quarter on one-yard touchdown runs by DaJuane Collins and Morgan Williams
The Rockets' next game will be Friday, Nov. 20 vs. Eastern Michigan at the Glass Bowl. UT's season concludes on Nov. 27 at Bowling Green.
