Toledo, OH - Toledo (18-20, 8-10 MAC) allowed season highs in both hits and runs today as Central Michigan (29-13, 16-2) posted a 20-8 triumph over the Rockets this afternoon at Scott Park. The Chippewas pounded out 22 hits including three home runs off six UT hurlers to maintain its lead in the MAC West Division.
CMU's three-game sweep was the first time that Toledo has been swept at Scott Park since April 1-3, 2005 by Western Michigan.
Senior Kurt Lauscher (6-1) picked up the victory for CMU, allowing 12 hits and seven runs over seven innings. The Rockets connected for three homers off Lauscher in the bottom of the seventh as freshman CF Josh Wierzba, junior 3B Scott Boley and freshman DH Josh Johnson went deep. Also connecting for long balls for UT were sophomore 1B Josh Colliver in the second inning and senior 1B Ryan Laude in the ninth frame.
The Chippewas broke the game open with a six-run second inning that sent Toledo starter Ryan France (1-2) to the showers. CMU then plated six more runs in the fifth followed by three runs apiece in the sixth and seventh frames.
Boley led UT's offense with three hits, while Colliver and junior LF Jake Swint collected two hits apiece.
Toledo returns to action on Friday, May 4 when it begins a three-game series vs. Ball State at Scott Park.
