SHREVEPORT, LA - A three-run, seventh inning led Toledo (3-2) to a 5-2 win over Centenary (8-10) on Sunday afternoon at Shehee Stadium.
Tied 2-2 heading into the seventh, the Rockets led off the inning with two-straight singles by junior Sean Boley and sophomore Jake Oester, who finished with two hits.
After freshman Tim Krofcheck hit into a fielders choice, resulting in Boley being tagged out at third, the runners advanced to second and third on a throwing error by Centenary pitcher Jeremy Sheehan. Sheehan attempted to pickoff Oester at second, throwing the ball into center field to allow the runners to advance.
A junior Drew Hoisington double off of the centerfield wall in the seventh brought home the go-ahead runs for the Rockets. Hoisington later scored on a classmate Jake Swint groundout to first to give Toledo the 5-2 lead.
Centenary failed to tie the game over the final three innings, registering just one hit over the final nine outs of the contest. Senior Todd Thomas picked up the win for the Rockets, going eight innings and allowing 10 hits. Senior Joe Roberts picked up the save with a one-hit ninth inning.
The Gents, who won two out of three games against the Rockets, battled back to tie the game in the sixth inning off of RBI's by Matt Webb and Alex Maldonado.
Trailing 2-0 to enter the inning, Calvin Sanchez and Cameron Penney led off the sixth with two consecutive singles. With Sanchez on third, Webb hit a fly to right, scoring the Gents first run of the contest.
Maldonado drove a single to third, scoring Penney from third and tying the game at 2-2.
Sheehan went 6.1 innings in the loss, allowing eight hits and striking out five.
Toledo returns to action on Tuesday, Mar. 6 for the first of two games at Louisiana Tech. The first pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m.
