Toledo Falls on the Road to Buffalo, 43-33

AMHERST, NY - Toledo racked up a season-high 518 yards of offense but it wasn't enough to stop Buffalo as the Rockets fell to the Bulls, 43-33, at Buffalo on Saturday.

Senior Jalen Parmele rushed 29 times for a season-high 171 yards, and sophomore Stephen Williams tied a school record with 15 receptions for 172 yards and two TDs. Freshman D.J. Lenehan threw for 307 yards and three touchdowns. Lenehan was 32-of-50 passing with one interception.

Toledo (2-5, 0-3 MAC) had the ball with 2:28 to play and trailing by 10 points, but used up the clock on their final drive, advancing ot the Buffalo 10-yard line.

Buffalo (3-4, 3-1 MAC) struck quickly to start the game, scoring two touchdowns in the first 2:10 of the game, both on runs by James Starks. The Rockets trailed by as many as 20 points in the first half and entered the locker room at the break down, 36-19.

Lenehan hooked up with senior tight end Chris Hopkins for a five-yard score with 7:22 left in the third quarter to pull UT to within 10 points, 36-26. But Buffalo answered with a 36-yard TD run by James Starks. Toledo scored again with 6:53 to play on a 11-yard TD catch from by Williams, but that was as close as the Rockets would get.

Starks ran for 231 yards and three touchdowns, becoming the first Buffalo back to top 200 yards rushing in 11 years.

The Rockets return to action next Saturday, Oct. 20 when they host defending MAC East champion Ohio. The opening kickoff from the Glass Bowl is slated for 7:00 p.m.
