Toledo, OH - The transition to outdoor play was no problem for the University of Toledo men's tennis team as they easily downed Buffalo 6-1 on Sunday in the Mid-American Conference opener at the newly renovated UT Varsity Courts. The Rockets now stand at 13-7 overall, 1-0 in the MAC and remain unbeaten in Toledo.
The Rockets began the day by winning each doubles match and never looked back after that, as they won five of the six singles matches as well. Junior Josh Moran stepped into an unfamiliar position at second doubles with an unfamiliar partner in Brian Rager and was able to grind out a close one. The pair defeated Matt Kennedy and Albert Alant 8-7 (2). Jared Miller and Wade Ward had the most dominating performance, winning 8-0.
In singles, no match went the maximum of three sets. Moran continued his impressive day, winning 6-3, 6-0 at fifth singles over Alant. Mohammed Al Nabhani at the first flight won 6-1, 7-5, while Jared Miller had another undefeated day, winning 6-3, 6-1 at third singles.
"We played well considering we only practiced outside three days this week," Head Coach Al Wermer said. "I was really impressed with the guys, they played smart tennis, despite a few concentration lapses. Josh Moran was excited to finally get to play doubles and he also steamrolled his opponent in singles. He had an impressive day."
The Rockets hit the courts next on Saturday, Apr. 8 at Ball State at 1 P.M.
