Toledo Loses Heartbreaker at Ball State

Muncie, IN - The University of Toledo men's tennis team lost a close match at Mid-American Conference rival Ball State today 4-3 at the Muncie YMCA. Ball State, a perennial powerhouse in the MAC is 15-6 on the year, 2-0 in the MAC, while the Rockets fall to 13-8 overall, 1-1 in the MAC.
The Rockets came in shorthanded, as they were without top singles and doubles player Mohammed Al Nabhani. The freshman is competing for his native Oman in the Davis Cup in Jordan.
The remaining Rockets gave an unbelievable effort against the Cardinals and came up just short. Jared Miller led UT by going 2-0 on the day. The freshman defeated Tony Epkey at third singles 6-4, 6-2, and teamed with Wade Ward at third doubles to win 8-3.
Tony Tran picked up a three-set victory in singles (6-4, 6-7, 6-2) over Joe Epkey. Josh Moran picked up the other Rocket victory in singles over Jared Epkey 7-5, 7-6 (8).
"We put on a good show today, our energy was good," Head Coach Al Wermer said. "I was really impressed with our three winners in singles (Miller, Moran and Tran). Ball State is nearly indestructable at home in conference matches."
Toledo returns home tomorrow to host MAC rival IPFW at the UT Varsity Courts at 1 p.m.
