Toledo, OH - The University of Toledo men's tennis team used its first Mid-American Conference loss on Saturday at Ball State as motivation and defeated an improving IPFW team 7-0 on Sunday at UT Varsity Courts. The Rockets improve to 14-8 overall, 2-1 in the MAC.
The Rockets grabbed control of the match early and never let go, as they swept a close doubles competition and dominated in singles.
Jared Miller remained unbeated in the MAC with a pair of victories. The freshman has now won 10 matches in a row in doubles and singles and hasn't lost since March 5 at Columbia.
Miller began the day with a close win with Wade Ward at second doubles (9-8 (3)) and ended with a win at third singles 6-2, 6-0. Tony Tran had an undefeated weekend in singles, defeating Landry Nzudie 6-2, 6-3 at first singles.
"IPFW is a much-improved and grittier team over last year, but unfortunately for them, so are we," Head Coach Al Wermer said. "I'm proud of the guys for being tough and getting the win. Tony had a great win in singles. This may have been the best weekend of his career in singles."
The Rockets were once again without top singles and doubles player Mohammed Al Nabhani who is in Jordan playing in the Davis Cup for his native Oman.
Toledo returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Northern Illinois for a 1 p.m. MAC match.
