DeKalb, IL - Toledo continued its winning ways with a tightly contested 4-3 win at Northern Illinois on Saturday. The Rockets improve to 15-8 with the win, 3-1 in the Mid-American Conference.
The Rockets got off to a solid start taking two of three in doubles to pick up the point. Tony Tran began his undefeated day winning at first doubles with Mohammed Al Nabhani 8-6.
The singles matches were tightly contested, with each team taking three. Despite losing his first doubles match of the MAC season and seeing his overall 10-game winning streak snapped, Jared Miller came right back in singles and remained unbeaten in the MAC with a 6-3, 6-2 fourth singles win.
After Travis Curran picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win at sixth singles, the match outcome came down to Tran with the score tied 3-3. The senior clinched the win for the Rockets and continued his hot streak with a thrilling 7-6, 6-7, 6-2 victory at No.2 singles.
"The conditions were sloppy today, but we battled through it," Head Coach Al Wermer said. "I wasn't as happy with our play as I have been but we battled and prevailed. Tony picked up a nice win and continues to improve as he closes out his career."
The Rockets return to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at UT Varsity Courts against Western Michigan.
