Toledo Sweeps Weekend Home Matches

Toledo, OH - The Toledo men's tennis team broke into the double digit column for victories and remained undefeated at home with three victories this weekend at Laurel Hill Tennis Club. On Friday, UT defeated Duquesne 6-1, while on Saturday the Rockets beat DePaul 6-1 and IUPUI 7-0.

The Rockets got the weekend started right on Friday with a 6-1 victory over Duquesne. Toledo swept the doubles matches, while the singles matches were highlighted by a 6-1, 6-0 victory by Tony Tran at third singles and a 6-0, 6-1 win by Jared Miller at fourth singles.

On Saturday in the first matach of the day, the Rockets had little trouble with the Big East Conference's DePaul. Travis Curran teamed with Brian Rager for an 8-5 win at second doubles, to start off his undefeated weekend, before winning at fifth singles 6-3, 6-0. Chris Clark played in the most grueling match of the day, gutting out a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win at second singles.

In the nightcap, the Rockets breezed to a 7-0 win over IUPUI. Toledo won every set in the match, as Curran moved up to the second singles flight to win 6-1, 6-2. Cristobal Toral moved up from his normal position at the sixth flight to the third flight to win 6-1, 6-1.

"I think we have some brushing up to do on our doubles, they were a bit patchy this weekend," Head Coach Al Wermer said. "But the beauty of our season is that we don't always fire on all cylinders, but our engine runs consistently regardless. It's not always the same players, but we find a way to get it done."

Toledo, 10-5 on the season and 8-0 at home, returns to action on Saturday, Mar. 4 when it travels to Big Ten Penn State for a 10 A.M. match.
